Microsoft’s PC Manager app has been submitted to the Microsoft Store, though it’s still hidden

What do you want to know

  • Microsoft has been working for several months on a PC Manager application for Windows.
  • The app was recently submitted to the Microsoft Store, although its listing is currently hidden.
  • PC Manager allows users to optimize their computer by performing a health check, managing storage, selecting which applications run at startup, and managing active applications.

Microsoft has a PC Manager app in the works which was recently submitted to the Microsoft Store. The application brings together pre-existing features for PC optimization and management in one convenient place. Users can select which apps run on startup, manage storage, and clear unused files from their PC using the app.

As noted Lumia Updates, the PC Manager application has been available in beta for several months. Microsoft even has a dedicated web page (opens in a new tab), although you have to translate it. Today’s news is simply that the app has been submitted to the Microsoft Store, although the listing is hidden for now.

None of the options presented in PC Manager are new, but the app makes them easier to find. For example, users can already select which apps run at startup through the Control Panel and optimize storage through the Settings app. Although tech-savvy people already know where to find these settings, PC Manager provides them with easy shortcuts.

Although the app offers several useful choices to improve the performance of a PC, it is mocked on the web due to its suggestion to switch to Microsoft Edge. Under a section titled “Potential Issues”, the only suggested action is “Reset Default Browser to Edge”.

Microsoft has been aggressive over the years in its efforts to get people to use its browser. Several Windows 11 items open in Edge regardless of your default browser. The process of changing the default browser in Windows 11 is also not seamless, although it is improved over the past few months.

Aside from the suggestion to use Edge for many, PC Manager appears to be a straightforward application for optimizing a system.
