Microsoft: Beloved Windows 11 adopted twice as fast as Windows 10

In a blog post on its official website, Microsoft looks back on the performance of its Windows operating system over the past two years and shares some of its achievements during the period. There are currently over 1.4 billion monthly active users of Windows 10 and 11 worldwide, and time spent on Windows has increased by 10% from pre-pandemic levels.

On average, people spend 40% more time on their Windows 11 PCs than on their Windows 10 PCs, but that may not be entirely due to the new operating system’s prowess.

Citing figures from Canalys, Microsoft says that more than 340 million PCs were delivered in 2021, a growth of 27% compared to 2019.

Windows 11 has been well received by PC users, according to Microsoft, as the free upgrade was accepted at twice the rate of Windows 10 compared to Windows 8. Microsoft also shares that Windows 11 apparently has the scores highest quality and satisfaction of any Windows. Obviously, these two items don’t mention that Windows 11 is only offered to a small subset of Windows 10 users, whereas Windows 10 was available to just about all Windows 8 users.

Yet the numbers are impressive, as the transition has not been perfectly smooth. There were documented issues with Windows 11 on AMD processors, along with a number of other bugs and performance issues. But these were quickly resolved and are now a thing of the past – most of them, anyway.

Microsoft says Windows 11 is responsible for a three-fold increase in Microsoft Store traffic, but it could also be the result of new, more favorable store policies from 2021.

Finally, Microsoft announced that the Windows 11 upgrade offer is entering its final phase of availability, well ahead of the original mid-2022 plan.
