Windows Server 2022 receives this year’s first Patch Tuesday update (KB5009555)
After fixing a critical issue with Remote Desktop through an out-of-band update, Microsoft released the first patch on Tuesday of this year for Windows Server 2022. While update KB5009555 is a servicing stack update of routine for Windows 10, the update for Windows Server 2022 includes quality improvements.
Microsoft has released Windows 10 Servicing Stack Update – 20348.403 in addition to Patch Tuesday Security Update for Windows Server 2022 Build 20348.469. According to Microsoft’s official support page, the update should ensure that Active Directory (AD) attributes are written correctly and should also fix erratic behavior seen when using Japanese Input Method Editors (IMEs). .
The official page confirms the Patch Tuesday update for Windows Server 2022:
- Addresses an issue that prevents Active Directory (AD) attributes from being written correctly during a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) modify operation when you make multiple attribute changes.
- Addresses a known issue that affects Japanese input method editors (IMEs). When using a Japanese IME to enter text, the text may appear out of order or the text cursor may move unexpectedly in applications that use the Multibyte Character Set (MBCS). This issue affects Microsoft’s Japanese IME and third-party Japanese IMEs.
Along with quality improvements, Microsoft has also released Windows 10 Servicing Stack Update – 20348.403. “This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates.” It’s basically a routine update that Microsoft sends out occasionally to ensure that Windows 10 PCs have a “robust and reliable servicing stack” to reliably accept, receive, and install updates.
Administrators in charge of Windows Server 2022 should be aware of a minor issue with the update, but Microsoft already has a simple workaround involving tweaking the Group Policy Editor. Administrators should also install KB5005039, dated August 10, 2021, before installing the latest cumulative update.
