  • You cannot reinstall Windows 11 SE once you uninstall it from your PC hardware.
  • Microsoft Intune can be used to monitor both standard versions of Windows and Windows 11 SE.
  • Microsoft removed a few features from Windows 11 SE to make it more student-friendly.

Microsoft just launched the Surface Laptop for use in schools, priced at $250. It’s in the fight against Chromebooks. But cheap prices won’t be enough.

Chromebooks are very popular among educational institutions due to Chrome OS. The Chrome OS works perfectly with low-end devices.

Chromebooks are also fairly easy to manage, making life easier for administrators. It is also difficult to alter the normal functioning of the device with malware and unsupported apps.

Suitable for educational purposes

Microsoft’s counterpart to Chrome OS is Windows 11 SE. Windows 11 SE is a unique version of Windows offering users a cheap license. It runs on fewer apps, making it ideal for educational use.

Windows 11 SE allows users to save all of their files, including profile information, to their students’ OneDrive accounts. This version develops best in low-end devices.

However, a few features have been removed from this version to ensure that it provides students with a conducive environment for studying.

The operating system of these devices allows administrators exclusive access to applications and browser extensions. Microsoft Intune allows the installation process to take place.

Availability of Windows 11 SE

According to Microsoft, Windows 11 SE cannot be purchased and installed on PCs and laptops. This is a major setback as schools now need to get new hardware that will allow them to benefit from the new Windows 11 SE.

You can only access Windows 11 SE if the laptop you get is already preinstalled. it should be noted that you can update these devices to Windows 10 or even Windows 11.

However, you will not be able to reinstall Windows 11 SE on your device once you remove it from your device. Microsoft did the same thing with licensing on the ARM versions of Windows 11 and Windows 10.

These builds are available on new hardware and devices purchased from PC manufacturers. However, individuals and organizations cannot access the licenses that will allow them to install it on their devices such as Apple Silicon Macs.

Standard versions of Windows can also be managed using Microsoft Intune. This allows IT administrators to manage devices running on the standard version of Windows or on Windows 11 SE.

However, this can be seen as a setback, as IT administrators cannot create a single Windows 11 SE operating system image to use on all the devices they monitor. It could have been a great way to eclipse Chrome OS.

The Chrome OS cannot be installed on existing PC hardware. Although Neverware’s CloudReady is set to provide a similar experience to users.
