Microsoft releases out-of-band update to Windows Server 2019
Microsoft has started rolling out an out-of-band update for Windows Server 2019. The same patch KB5010791 addresses a few critical issues introduced with the January 2021 Patch Tuesday updates.
According to the release notes, this update fixes an issue that causes unexpected restarts on Windows Server domain controllers. Microsoft also fixed a bug that prevented ReFS (Resilient File System) formatted hard drives from displaying at all or displaying as unformatted raw drives. This update also includes some improvements to repair dropped VPN connections on Windows Server machines. You can check out the full list of improvements in the changelog below:
- Addresses a known issue that could cause IP security (IPSEC) connections containing a vendor ID to fail. VPN connections using Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) or IP Security Internet Key Exchange (IPSEC IKE) may also be affected.
- Addresses a known issue that may cause Windows servers to restart unexpectedly after installing the January 11, 2022 update on domain controllers (DCs).
- Addresses an issue that prevents Active Directory (AD) attributes from being written correctly during a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) modify operation when you make multiple attribute changes.
- Addressed issue that could prevent removable media formatted using Resilient File System (ReFS) from mounting or cause removable media to mount in RAW file format. This issue occurs after installing Windows January 11, 2022 Update.
Microsoft Releases Out of Band Update for Windows Server 2022, 20H2, 20H1, 2016, 2012 R2
The out-of-band update follows the release of emergency fixes for Windows Server versions 2022, 20H2, 20H1, 2016, 2012 R2. These Windows Server updates released on January 17 fixed all the aforementioned issues. Microsoft has also rolled out updates for Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7 to address L2TP VPN connectivity issues.
Microsoft recommends that customers install the latest patch as soon as possible on their Windows Server 2019 machines.
